In preparation for its 100th anniversary in 2011, the city’s historic fire hall is receiving a facelift.

The City of Nelson hall on Ward Street in Uphill will be the recipient of around $60,000 of taxpayer’s money to bring it up to grade on its second and third floors.

Fire chief Simon Grypma told The Nelson Daily the upgrade will comprise new insulation (to be completed at the end of the month), new light fixtures, installation of programmable thermostats and motion detectors on light switches.

It will also include restoration of part of the third floor (dormer window), a new furnace, new windows and the removal of asbestos and lead paint, with washroom and locker facilities also being upgraded.
