Fire and first responder calls down in Area F
By Timothy Schafer, The Nelson Daily
Fire and first responder calls were down this summer, according to the Beasley Fire Rescue fire chief.
Al Craft said the call volume was down noticeably for the summer of 2010 over the last year, although he couldn’t give an exact figure.
However, the Nelson Search and Rescue made up for the slow times, having 35 calls for service so far this year, making them the third busiest group in the province, Craft said.
Nelson SAR is now working on a long-term lease for the North Shore Hall and have finished the construction of a boathouse at the Kootenay Launch Club.
Calls for the boat were also down this summer, Craft said.
Kootenay heli-rescue has had four calls this year.
He also said the job posting for the new regional fire chief position has gone out for advertisement.
A computer, a new course and a generator have all been applied for by various emergency response committees across the region as they all look to get a piece of the Joint Emergency Preparedness Program funding.
Nelson and regional district areas E and F have applied for $4,000 to hold an incident command system 200 or 300 level course for the 2011/2012 funding year.
Area D and Kaslo have applied for the purchase of a new generator for the Meadow Creek Hall with the remainder of the cost split between the Meadow Creek Hall and the Kaslo and Area D Emergency Service.
Salmo and Area G have applied for $1,700 to purchase a new laptop computer for the Salmo Area G emergency operation centre.
