Take a One Night Stand Against Cancer

Fruitvale's Vicki Iachetta was one of many West Kootenay cancer patients  to benefit from the Southern Interior Rotary Lodge.

The Southern Interior Rotary Lodge is a lifeline for residents who are fighting cancer. Fruitvale resident Vickie Iachetta certainly feels that way after spending the month of August at the lodge while undergoing radiation therapy in Kelowna.

From Sept. 1, 2015, to Sept. 30, 2016, residents from the Southern Interior region stayed over 10,000 nights at the lodge. West Kootenay residents alone account for 1,599 of these nights.

Overdose Crisis – RCMP Agreement with China

CMP and Chinese Ministry of Public Safety announced their commitment to work together to co-ordinate enforcement efforts against illegal fentanyl trafficking into Canada.

The Minister of Public Safety and Solicitor General Mike Morris and Minister of Health Terry Lake issued the following statement on the overdose crisis:

“We are pleased to report today the RCMP and Chinese Ministry of Public Safety announced their commitment to work together to co-ordinate enforcement efforts against illegal fentanyl trafficking into Canada. China is also co-operating with our federal government to make precursors to fentanyl controlled substances under Chinese law.

Canada’s health-care wait times hit 20 weeks in 2016 — longest ever recorded

Before this year, the longest recorded median wait time was 19 weeks in 2011.

Canadian patients waited longer than ever this year for medical treatment, finds a new study released today by the Fraser Institute, an independent, non-partisan Canadian public policy think-tank.

The study, an annual survey of physicians from across Canada, reports a median wait time of 20 weeks — the longest ever recorded — and more than double the 9.3 weeks Canadians waited in 1993, when the Fraser Institute began tracking wait times for medically necessary elective treatments.

Microblading, also known as eyebrow embroidery, microstroking, and feather touch, is a technique used to apply semi-permanent makeup. This form of cosmetic tattooing uses ink and a very small blade to fill out or re-shape eyebrows.
