Wassick, Dorothy Colman

(June 24th, 2020)

August 01, 1925-June 13,2020

It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Dorothy Colman Wassick on June 13, 2020 at the age of 94, the last matriarch of the Colman family. She was born in St. Boniface, Manitoba where she and her four siblings, Ernie-Sybil-Joyce-Dennis were raised. The family moved to Vancouver before settling in Nelson.

Dorothy became an exceptional gymnast and also received a business degree at L.V. Rogers high school. There she met her future in Harry (Red) Wassick. Together they raised 5 children, Harriet-Dave-Guy-Juliet-Brant, and loved life on the north shore at 9 mile. Mom kept a great garden full of fresh vegetables and also canned fruit which we would enjoy every night for dessert.

Mom would always have snacks ready when we kids came home on the bus and take us down to the beach to play in our paradise. Mom was devoted to the family and made countless sacrifices to keep us happy, healthy and loved. One loving memory we all have is when she got a phone call that her Mom passed away on a Christmas morning but Mom didn’t tell us until Boxing Day so that we got the full joy of a family Christmas.

On her 80th birthday celebration we held a huge family party, the word to describe her to express our love was ‘selflessness’, she always put us first, it’s who she was. Mom was an avid sports fan and rarely missed a Blue Jays or Canucks game.

Mom is joining Dad (2016) and son Dave (2014) and grandson Jason Blake Savage (1982) in heaven and is survived by daughters Harriet (Bowolin) and Juliet (Genero) and sons Guy and Brant, along with 10 loving grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

The family is so thankful to the wonderful caring staff at Jubilee Manor who made Mom’s final years full of joy and deeply felt connections.

In lieu of flowers, you may consider making a donation in her memory to the NELSON JUBILEE MANOR/PLACE FOUNDATION.
