Eleanor Jean Pompu

October 8, 1946 ~ October 2, 2016

We are saddened to announce the passing of our dearest mother, Eleanor Jean Pompu on October 2, 2016. Mom had been a resident of Mt. Lakes Care Home for the past 9 years. She passed away after a lengthy illness. She was born   in Pilger, Saskatchewan, where she met and married Karl Pompu on October 8, 1946. They lived and worked in Saskatchewn eventually moving to B.C. They moved to Riondel in 1952 and later moved and worked in Trail in 1964 eventually settling down and raising their family in Nelson a short time later. Mom worked as a waitress for many years in Nelson. She was an active member in the Catholic Church and served as president of the CWL for several years. In her later year’s mom took up and finally learned to swim, bowl, and loved to spend the day out on Kootenay Lake catching fish or sitting on a floatie. Her pride and joy were her grand kids and her great grand kids, showering them with goodies when they visited. Mom also loved her many flower baskets receiving a letter from the mayor admiring their beauty. Mom is survived by her children; Gerry, Dwaine, Elaine, Ron, Larry and Denise. (she was predeceased by her husband Karl in 1988). Mom was truly loved by all and will be sadly missed. Thanks to Dr. Janz and the staff at Mt. Lakes for your wonderful care, esp. Jen, Mary and Leah, from Alpine cottage, who always gave mom that special attention that made mom smile and feel loved.  Funeral mass will be held on Monday October 17, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Mary Immaculate Father Conrado Beloso as celebrant.
