Peloso, Reo Johnnie

(October 21st, 2022)

Dad passed away the way he lived his life, surrounded by family, on Friday October 21, 2022. Family meant everything to Dad and most Sundays were spent together sharing a plate of pasta, a glass of wine, and some good conversation and laughs. Anyone who knew him knew how he loved to tell stories; he had an incredible memory right up until the end. Some of our last memories we have will be the stories he told us. We had the joy of planning and celebrating his 90 birthday recently and he was surrounded by extended family and friends. He was so delighted, and he continued to relish the memories of that party the last few weeks of his life.

Dad was born in Powell River, BC the second child to Quinto and Maria Peloso. His only sister Vina predeceased him in 1995. The family moved to Trail BC when he was a young boy and he resided there until moving to Nelson to work and raise his family.

Dad spent his career working for the Department of Highways and retired with 30 years service. He could fix or build anything; cars, house repairs, furniture, you name it, he could do it.  He was always willing to lend a hand if asked.

Dad volunteered for his community with the MS Society, the Red Cross, and Meals on Wheels – he use to joke he was older than most of the residents he was delivering meals to!  He was part of the Canadian Italian Society and proud of his Italian heritage.

Reo is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jean, his daughters Teresa and partner Al, Stephanie and husband Paul, his son Darren and wife Kelly.  He was Nono to Aaron and partner Brooklea, Rheanne and husband Dave, Natalie and partner Skylar, Claire, Ella, Sophia, Cooper and to his delight, a great grandson, Arlo.

We want to thank Dr. Tuvel, Dr Merritt, Dr Mieske, and the nurses on the medical ward at KLH. We are truly grateful for your care and attention.

Dad you were an extraordinary man, and you have left a large hole in our hearts. We will miss you everyday but you have left us all better for having known you.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Prestige Inn on Sunday October 30, 2022 at 2 pm. Please come and share a story and remember all the good times we shared with him.  Donations can be made in Reo’s name to the Kootenay Lake Hospital oncology unit.
