Macdonald, Alasdair

(October 11th, 2020)

Oct 10, 1931 – Sept 21, 2020

Alasdair Macdonald, husband to Anne, father to Don (Allison), Duncan (Kimberley), and Rob (Kristen), grandfather to Gabriel and Dune, brother in-law to Margie Stephens, and great friend to Nan Bell and “the boys”, passed away peacefully on Monday Sept 21st at Mountain Lakes Senior’s Home in Nelson, BC.

Alasdair was born in Inverness, Scotland and spent much of his young life in Scourie, in the heart of the North Western Highlands. After compulsory army duty he travelled a great deal and eventually met Anne in Australia and the two travelled to Canada, finally settling down in Nelson in 1966. Soon after, he started his own travel agency, Kokanee Travel, a business he owned and managed for over 40 years. An avid hiker and skier, Alasdair had a close-knit collection of mountaineering friends from over 50 years of outdoor recreation in the Nelson area. When he wasn’t spending the day hiking any of his favorite Kootenay mountains, he still managed to hike Pulpit Rock daily and his ski season would extend long into the Spring months.

The family would like to thank all those that visited Alasdair and supported the family through his almost 4 year stay at Mountain Lakes. We would also like to thank the incredible staff at Mountain Lakes who cared for him with great kindness and compassion.

Due to COVID the family will not be having a reception but would ask those that knew and loved Alasdair to toast him (possibly with a wee dram of scotch) on the next walk into the beautiful outdoors.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Alasdair’s name to the Pulpit Rock Society.
