(October 9th, 2017)

Ethel Barbara (Coombs) Glover

Jan. 21, 1924 to Sept. 28, 2017

Ethel was born near Ottawa, Ontario to William Robert Coombs and Mary Ethel (Lusk) Coombs.  She was the oldest of 7 children.  She grew up there and joined the Women’s Division of the Air Force.  When she was finished there, she went to Vancouver, and stayed with her Aunt Ethel Knowles.  She met my dad (Alexander W. Glover) while going to college to upgrade her schooling.  They were married on Dec. 22, 1953 in Vancouver.  After they moved to Kelowna, Maureen S. Glover was born in 1955.  They moved from there to Courtenay, then Nanaimo, and finally to Nelson in 1967.

She was predeceased by her husband (Alexander W. Glover), her parents, four brothers, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, a nephew, and a niece.  On the Glover side, she is predeceased by a brother-in-law and his wife.  She is survived by her daughter, Maureen (Glover) Attridge and son-in-law Robert Attridge.  Also, one sister, one brother (and ex-wife), and two sisters-in-law.  On Alex’s side, she is survived by one brother-in-law and his first wife.  There are also many nieces and nephews and their families, on both sides.  She will also be missed by quite a few friends who “adopted” her as their “mom”!  She also had two “exchange student granddaughters”, Leena from Finland, and Tati from Germany, and their families, who will also miss her.

She was active in the Legion, Kokanee Rock Club, Heart and Stroke Foundation, United Church, Hospital Auxiliary, and Federal Government Retirees Association.

Thank you to the great staff at Mountain Lake Senior Community, where she resided for the last two and a half years.!

There will be a private graveside service later in October.
