DeJong, Ida Marie

(May 13th, 2021)

March 2 1935 – May 5 2021

Mom passed away peacefully at home with family by her side after a short illness.

She was predeceased by her Husband John DeJong, her sisters Ann Gabor, Marie Catenacci and Josephine (Jo) Catenacci.

Mom is survived by her children Terry (Lisa), Randy (Kelly), Chris & Carolyn DeJong.

Also left to mourn her are many grandchildren, great grandchildren, her sisters Fran (Buck), Bernadine (Fred) and her brother Jack (Norine) as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

Mom (or Ma as we called her) was born and raised in Nelson BC. Then 48 years ago moved to her forever home on Longbeach Road with her husband and 4 kids.

Ida’s family was the most important thing in her life, raising us with love, strength and compassion (and thousands of pictures).

She was always overjoyed as each of her grandchildren were born and made each and every one feel like they were her favourite.

Moms other passions were tending her vegetable and flower gardens, going to the beach on hot summer days with her 4 kids in tow and visiting with family and friends. Her door was always open and she was well known for her homemade cinnamon buns and bottomless pots of coffee.

For many years she loved to meet her family on Wednesdays for lunch at the Hume and to play Keno.

Mom will be missed by all whose lives she touched and will be forever in our hearts and memories.

We would like to thank Dr. Andre Kirsten, Dr. Sparrow and the staff at Kootenay Lake Hospital Emergency Department, The Paramedics, Home Care Nurses and Home Care Aids, the Walmart Pharmacists and staff and the Nelson Red Cross for all their care and compassion over the last few weeks.

We would also like to thank Thompson’s Funeral Home for their care and respect during this time.

Ida has been cremated as per her wishes. A private family memorial will be held later this summer.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Kootenay Lake Hospital in Nelson, the BC Lung Association or the S.P.C.A
