Bainbridge, Isobel Thelma

(October 29th, 2022)

Oct 19th, 1924 to Oct 29th, 2022

Isobel was born and raised in Vancouver and moved with her family (and best friend Anne) to Kootenay Lake in the spring of 1944 during World War II where her mom and dad built Sanca Park Resort. This is where she met her future husband, Wilf Bainbridge. They married in Vancouver in 1946 and lived at Boswell for a few years before moving to Nelson in 1950 where she and Wilf operated a small farm (Bainbridge Poultry Farm) on the north shore at 7-mile. On the farm they raised chickens and had a large apple orchard (after the peach trees all froze the first year they lived there).

Isobel was a city born girl but quickly adapted to become a chicken farmer’s wife and was also an avid gardener whether it was for her many vegetables or her beautiful flower beds, especially roses. She was an amazing cook, baker, knitter and seamstress. Nothing went to waste at her house! One of Isobel’s great accomplishments was getting her driving license when she was 50 years old!

After the kids had grown up they retired from the farm life and eventually moved into Nelson for a more stress free condo lifestyle and enjoyed playing cards, bowling, golfing and traveling. After Wilf passed away in 2002 and having some failing health Isobel moved to Golden in 2013 to be closer to her daughter, Laurie. In 2018 she made her final move to Salmon Arm.

Isobel is survived by her three children, Bonnie (Neil), Laurie (Alan) and Dan (Rahul); daughter-in-law Ria; 5 grandchildren – Trish, Brian (Dianne), Matt (Rachel), Darcy (Teri) and Aaron (Nicole); and 3 great-grandchildren (Harrison, Isla & Rhett). Isobel was predeceased by grandson Justin, her husband Wilf, her brother Earl Wilson and her best friend Anne Slessor.

The family would like to recognize the kindness and care of the staff at Mountain Lakes (Nelson), Durand Manor (Golden) and Mount Ida Mews (Salmon Arm) who looked after our mom with such amazing care and love. Our family will gather in the spring of 2023 to place her ashes with Wilf.
