Young male taken to hospital following rope swing accident near Fisherman's Pit beach

A young male was taken to hospital after falling from a rope swing near Fisherman’s Pit Road beach Sunday afternoon.

The accident happened at approximately 5:30 p.m. Sunday when a male fell from a rope swing on Kootenay River, approximately 10 kilometers west of Nelson and a few hundred feet from Fisherman’s Pit beach.

Beasley Fire Rescue attended with on-ground first responders as well as two firefighters on watercraft.

People in boats and kayaks as well as sunbathers at Fisherman’s Pit watched as responding firefighters performed a rope rescue to retrieve the injured male from the rocks below Fisherman’s Pit road to two awaiting BC Ambulances.

The male was then transported to hospital. No word on the extent of the injuries or the cause of the accident.
