The 100 Mile House Wranglers are one win away from knocking off the defending Kootenay International Junior Hockey League champions and winning the first title in team history.

The Wranglers built a 3-0 lead, then held off a late charge to edge the Kimberley Dynamiters 3-2 in KIJHL Finals action Wednesday night in 100 Mile House.

The win, combined with a 4-1 decision Tuesday, gives the Wranglers a commanding 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven league championship series.
Game five is Thursday in 100 Mile House.

Win, and the Wranglers captured that elusive first KIJHL title and a trip to represent the league at the Cyclone Taylor Cup next month in Victoria.

Lose, and the series shifts back to the Bavarian City for Game six, and potentially, Game seven, Saturday and Sunday, respectively.

Wednesday, Justin Bond scored twice in the opening frame to set the tone for the home side.

Tyler Povelofski increased the lead to 3-0 midway through the second period on the power play.

However, the defending champs would not go down easy.

Korbyn Chabot cut the margin to 3-1 later in the period on the power play before Jared Marchi scored Kimberley’s second of the game midway through the third, also with a man advantage.

Kimberley fired 18 shots at Wranglers netminder Zane Steeves in the third period but could not find the equalizer.

Steeves has been a rock between the pipes for the Wranglers stopping 117 of 125 shots, including 40 during Game four.

Mitch Traichevich and Tyson Brouwer, who was the man in the crease during Kimberley’s run last year, combined to stop 21 shots.
