Wood Lake fire near Harrison Lake grows to estimate 1325 hectares

The Wood Lake wildfire 20 kilometres north of the community of Harrison Hot Springs and near Harrison Lake is now estimated at 1325 hectares.
The larger estimated size of this fire is due to increased visibility today which permitted more accurate mapping.
The majority of the fire’s growth took place on August 2 and 3, but heavy smoke in the area previously limited mapping capabilities. No structures or communities are threatened.
An area restriction remains in force for areas around this wildfire to protect the safety of firefighting personnel and the public.

Today, crews have been aided by cooler temperatures which have led to a decrease in fire behaviour. Nonetheless, the forecast for tomorrow calls for a return to warmer weather. Crews are currently working to assess and remove danger trees in work sites, and establish control lines and fuel-free areas on the north, west and south flanks.
This fire is suspected to be human-caused. All human-caused wildfires are preventable and unnecessarily divert firefighting resources from naturally occurring fires.
The Coastal Fire Centre is urging caution in the backcountry and asking everyone in the region to refrain from activities that may cause a wildfire.
This warning comes after the wildfire service is expecting possible lightning activity to start to increase over much of the province during the next few days.
