Environment Canada issued a Winter Storm Warning Thursday for the Boundary, West Kootenay and Kootenay Lake, including Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass, due to a frontal system moving into southern interior B.C.

Environment Canada said significant amounts of snow are expected.

“ Ten to fifteen cm of snow has already fallen across the region,” Environment said on its website Thursday.

“Further snowfall accumulation of 10 to 15 cm is expected before the snow tapers off late this evening.”

Environment Canada said surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow while visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Shift Into Winter reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.

Road conditions are available at DriveBC.
