Wilson, Comishin power Leafs past Rebels

Reid Wilson and Kaleb Comishin each scored twice to spark the Nelson Leafs to a 5-2 victory over the Castlegar Rebels in Kootenay International Junior Hockey League action Saturday night in the Sunflower City.
The win snapped a three-game losing skid for the Leafs and kept the Green and White on top of the Murdoch Division standings, three points ahead of second-place Beaver Valley Nitehawks.
After Colby Chavez-Leech gave the Rebels an early 1-0 lead, the Leafs took over the period, scoring three times including goals by Wilson and a pair by Comishin.
Lane Goodwin increased the lead to 4-1 after 40 minutes before Wilson and Tyren Grimsdale exchanged third-period goals to complete the scoring.
Anderson Violette bounced back from a two-game winless streak to register the win in goal as the hometown Rebels outshot the Leafs 27-25, including a 13-3 barrage in the third period.
Dawson Rattai was in goal for Castlegar.
Nelson, 16-6-0-0-3, continues a long string of games away from home Friday when the club meets the Golden Rockets Friday in Cranbrook.
The game was moved to the Key City after the Golden Arena experienced problems with a chiller.
Golden will play all December games in Cranbrook at the Memorial Arena or Western Financial Place, former home to the Kootenay Ice of the Western Hockey League.
Saturday, Nelson travels to Invermere to face the Columbia Valley Rockies before returning home Friday, December 13 to host defending KIJHL champion Revelstoke Grizzlies.
ICE CHIPS: Reid Wilson and Cole Wyatt each finished Saturday’s game with three points. Kaleb Comishin and Shawn Campbell each had two points. . . . Wilson moved into a tie for second in KIJHL scoring with 40 points. Brock Palmer of Kimberley Dynamiters leads the KIJHL with 59 points. . . . Nelson has won both meetings this season between the two Murdoch rivals. . . . Saturday’s loss was the eight consecutive setback for the Rebels, currently last in the Murdoch Division. . . .Kimberley Dynamiters, winners of nine straight games, hold down top spot in the KIJHL with 43 points. Kelowna Chiefs are next with 39 points followed by Revelstoke with 37 and Nelson with 35. . . . Nelson finished the month of November with a 6-4 record.
