Wildflower students bring 'Thriller' to life

Halloween is just around the corner, and to get all the zombies primed and ready for the big night, approximately 100 students, staff and parents from the Wildflower, dressed as zombies, brought Michael Jackson’s Thriller to life Wednesday afternoon on Baker Street.
The flash mob performance, during the noon hour on Baker Street, was a hit with the lunchtime crowd as camera phones were clicking and videos were rolling to capture the performance from Wildflower, an alternative learning program of Kootenay Lake School District.
The performance comes on the heels of the first-ever Civic Theatre Society Zombie walk that saw more than a couple of hundred corpses revived by witchcraft come to life on the downtown core of the Heritage City Saturday.
Wildflower provides a multi-age learning environment that is personalized and challenges students to achieve their best personal results.
Wednesday, Wildflower students delivered a personal and thrilling show for the public.
Of course, Friday is the night when all the ghosts and goblins will be taking over the streets in Nelson.
For young children, Halloween is one of the most exciting days in the year.
Costumes are selected, friends arranged and neighbourhoods often picked out well in advance for a night of trick or treating.
Here are a few tips to keep youngsters safe.
Tips for Children:
- Halloween is more fun when shared with friends , never go alone
- Can you see? Are you being seen? Wear reflective , bright coloured costumes and avoid masks that restrict your vision
- Only trick or treat at houses with lights turned on
- Never eat treats until an adult has inspected them
- Don’t criss-cross streets or run out from between parked vehicles
- Walk on sides of roads or sidewalks and when approaching homes, be respectful by not cutting across lawns
Tips for Motorists:
- Slow , slow, slow, expect kids to pop out at any time
- Be prepared to react and stay alert
Tips for Homeowners:
- If you are participating in Halloween, keep your lights on and porch or walkway clear of debris and potential items easily tripped on.
