Residents of the communities of Canal Flats and Elkford may notice heavy smoke from wildfires burning near Whiteswan Lake Provincial Park.

All of the fires being suppressed by Wildfire Management Branch personnel are now contained, while other fires in the area are being monitored but not actively suppressed. No communities or structures are threatened by any of these fires.

An area restriction order is in place north of the White River Forest Service Road to limit access and protect the safety of firefighting personnel and the public. A map of the area restriction is available online at: http://bit.ly/1qHn9oM

It’s expected that this area restriction will be rescinded on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014. Although forest service roads in the area have been re-opened to the public, anyone using the area should be mindful of the increased vehicle traffic and firefighting personnel working on these fires.

To report a wildfire or unattended campfire, call 1 800 663-5555 toll-free or *5555 on a cellphone.
