Wildcats gain split during West Kootenay Boy's Basketball Playday

The Mount Sentinel Wildcats earned a split during a three-team West Kootenay High School Boy’s Basketball Playday held recently at the South Slocan based gymnasium.

The Wildcats opened the event with a tough 62-50 loss to Boundary Central of Midway.

Mount Sentinel evened the score in the later game, thumping Nakusp Cougars 74-43.

In the opener Mathies Bergendahl poured in 23 points to lead the Roadrunners to the 12-point victory over the Cats.

Boundary Central held period leads of 19-13, 30-29 and 48-40 before coasting to the win.

Daniel Stewart scored 13 points for the Wildcats.

Against a shorthanded Cougars squad, Mount Sentinel busted open a close contest with a 14-7 run during the second quarter as the coaching staff rolled the entire roster into the game.

Kyle Kabatoff led the charge for Mount Sentinel with 22 points while Ty Loren had 12.

In the other game, Boundary Central blasted Nakusp 94-32.

Bergendahl had 26 points for the Roadrunners while Tristan Francis added 22.
