Mount Sentinel Wildcats had one goal this season, and that was to qualify for the BC High School A Girl’s Volleyball Championships.

The Cats earned a spot in the tournament next month in Nanaimo after Mount Sentinel finished fourth at the Kootenay High School A Girl’s Volleyball Championships Saturday in Sparwood.

Mount Sentinel lost in the Bronze Medal match, but the fourth-place finish was enough to power the team to the provincial tournament. The Wildcats managed to advance with no Grade 11 or 12s on the squad.

“On the strength of the Kootenay teams, (Kootenay) zone was awarded four berths (at provincials),” said Mount Sentinel coach Joe Moreira.

Mount Sentinel finished 1-2 in Power Pool Play, losing to Elkford and Fernie before defeating Sparwood. All three teams are ranked in the top 10 in the province.

Saturday, Mount Sentinel met Fernie Academy, with the winner automatically qualifying for BC’s. The Wildcats played, perhaps, their best game of the tournament, winning 3-0 (25-11, 25-12, 25-21) in the best-of-five qualifier.

Mount Sentinel lost 3-0 to Sparwood and Fernie to conclude the tournament in fourth place.

The team includes, Maggie Silverson, Sara St. Goddard, Yana Woods, Jaylen Rushton, Calla DeRosa, Annabelle Hardy, Adriana Wilson and Lauryn Berlinger.
