The future looks bright for minor baseball in Nelson after the West Kootenay Tigers, consisting of a large contingent of Heritage City players, captured the title at the Cranbrook Slug Fest Sunday in the Key City.

The Tigers outlasted the Lethbridge SWLL AAA squad 11-8 to claim the overall title.

West Kootenay opened the tournament with a 19-2 shellacking of the Cranbrook Bandits.

Saturday, the Tigers again dominated the Medicine Hat Crush 13-1 before concluding the round robin draw with an 11-6 decision over Medicine Hat AAA.

The Cranbrook tournament was the culmination of a great season for West Kootenay. The squad, consisting of eight players from Nelson and two from Castlegar, played a few exhibition games following the conclusion of the house league season.
