City of Nelson residents can now begin to return to some normalcy when it comes to drinking water.

City staff has now rescinded the Water Quality Advisory issued May 6, 2017.

The Advisory was issued due to “elevated turbidity levels”.

“It’s is safe for all residents, serviced by municipal water system, to drink their tap water,” the City of Nelson release said.

“The elevated turbidity in our source water, resulting from weeks of warm temperatures, rainfall and rapid snowmelt from historically deep snowpack, had decreased to a level where water quality is no longer degraded.”

City staff continues to monitor water quality at the source and throughout the system. But a large amount of high mountain snowpack remains.

Staff said should water quality change there will be notices posted on the City of Nelson website and the media.
