Environment Canada has called off the thunderstorm watch for the West Kootenay.

The on-again, off-again thunderstorm watch for the West Kootenay is back on again as Environment Canada said early Wednesday morning thunderstorms could develop across the Kootenay and Columbia regions beginning near midday.
“There is the potential for some of these storms to become severe,” Environment Canada says.
“Heavy downpours and strong wind gusts are the main concerns however hail is also possible.”
Environment Canada says severe thunderstorm watches are issued when atmospheric conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms that could produce one or more of the following: large hail, damaging winds, torrential rainfall.

Environment Canada ended its Severe thunderstorm watch for the West Kootenay Tuesday evening.
A recent bulletin was sent out Tuesday afternoon as conditions continued to be favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Environment Canada issued a Severe thunderstorm watch for the West Kootenay this morning.
Environment Canada said on its website that thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Southern Interior today and there is the potential for some of these storms to become severe.
“The main concern is heavy downpours however large hail and strong winds gusts are also possible.
“Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads. Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year. Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!
