UPDATED: RCMP confirm vehicle seized in fatal hit-and-run

Kamloops RCMP are confirming that police have seized a Jeep for forensic analysis after 16-year-old Jennifer Gatey was killed in a hit an run Friday (November 4).

Police released photos of a vehicle believed to be in the area at the time of the fatal accident.

Monday, RCMP said they confirmed they seized a similar vehicle in the Dufferin area following leads from the public.

Shortly after, police announced they were searching for a deep-coloured Jeep vehicle with visible damage – today they confirm they have seized a similar vehicle. 

RCMP said they are now conducting forensic analysis of the vehicle.

Kamloops RCMP seek public assistance in locating vehicle involved in fatal hit-and-run

Kamloops RCMP have released photos of a vehicle of interest in the fatal hit-and-run of 16-year-old Jennifer Gatey Friday (November 4) near Pacific Way and Aberdeen Drive, in front of Pacific Way elementary.

Gatey would have celebrated her 17th birthday Saturday (November 5).

RCMP Cpl. Jodi Shelkie said in a media release, after looking at numerous residential surveillance videos, police are interested in speaking with the owner and/or driver of a dark-coloured Jeep-style vehicle.

Shelkie said this SUV was in the area at the time of the hit and run.

“It is always tragic when a young person dies, but in this case, where Jennifer died the day before her 17th birthday, it is especially heart-breaking. That is why it is vital that we speak to the driver of this vehicle,” said Shelkie.

“We are asking the public to contact the Kamloops RCMP if they know who this vehicle might belong to or who the driver was.”

This investigation is ongoing by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit and Traffic Services.
