UPDATED: RCMP confirm the missing Nelson man has been located

In a recent media release, the Nakusp RCMP confirmed that the 54-year-old man reported missing has been located, and he is safe and sound.

The RCMP thanks the media and public for assisting in bringing this file to a satisfactory conclusion.

RCMP launch search for missing Nelson man

Nakusp RCMP is requesting the public’s assistance in locating a missing Nelson resident, whose vehicle was discovered abandoned in the line up to the Upper Arrow Lake Ferry at the Galena Bay ferry terminal in Galena Bay, 57 kilometers north of Nakusp on Highway 23.

In a media release, RCMP said on Tuesday, September 15, 2020 at 9:40 p.m., Nakusp RCMP was contacted by Galena Bay ferry terminal staff who reported that a white 2018 GMC Sierra pickup truck had been abandoned in the ferry terminal line up.

Police believe the vehicle belongs to 54-year-old Rodney Hawkins of Nelson.

“Police are appealing to any other ferry users who may have noticed this vehicle or its occupant to come forward with their information,” the RCMP media release said.

“The GMC quad-cab pickup truck, which had a black Yakima bike pad over the rear tailgate, was the fourth vehicle in the lineup, in the left hand lane and investigators believe that the vehicle entered the ferry lineup at approximately 6 p.m.

RCMP said police are now searching for the vehicle’s registered owner, Rodney Hawkins, who is considered a missing person at this time.

“There is nothing to indicate foul play at this time, however police and Rodney’s family are very concerned for his health and well-being,” the RCMP said.

Description of Rodney Hawkins:

  • Caucasian male;
  • 54 years;
  • 5 ft 10 in (178 cm);
  • 160 lbs (71 kg);
  • brown hair;
  • brown eyes;

Police said anyone with information on the whereabouts of Rodney Hawkins, or has any dash camera footage that may be of interest to investigators is urged to contact their local police, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
