UPDATED: One person killed after two vehicles collide Tuesday on Highway 3A

One person was killed and two people were injured after two vehicles collided on Highway 3A west of Nelson Tuesday morning RCMP said in a media release.

The accident, involving a car and a truck, occurred at approximately 9:42 a.m.

The accident closed the highway for four hours with traffic detoured until the scene investigation on complete.

“Two vehicles were involved, one of which was a car and the other a pickup,” said the media release.

“The driver of the car was transported to hospital by BC Ambulance but did not survive his injuries.”

RCMP said the two occupants of the pickup suffered minor injuries.

RCMP said names of the persons are not being released at this time until notice of next of kin and permission from the family of the injured has been received.

A Collision Reconstructionist was called to determine the scene of series of events.

RCMP said West Kootenay Traffic Services and BC Coroners Service are working together to determine the cause of the accident.

Multi-vehicle accident near Taghum shuts down Highway 3A to traffic

Highway 3A west of Nelson was closed Tuesday morning following a multi-vehicle accident near the Taghum Bridge.

It is believed that there could be as many three cars have been involved in the collision.

Police is asking the public to traffic to and from Nelson to detour using Granite Road for vehicles less than 5500 Kg.

No details have been released by police on injuries or when the highway will be re-opened.

Taghum Bridge is located approximately 10 kilometers west of Nelson.
