UPDATED: Nine confirmed COVID-19 cases in Salmo

The Village of Salmo said on its website Monday that there are nine (9) confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the village.

The announcement comes a few days after Salmo Community Services said (see story below) that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

“Village staff have tested negative for COVID-19,” the Village of Salmo, with a population of 1,141, release said.

“However, in the interests of staff and residents, as a precaution, the Village office will remain closed to appointments for the next two weeks, at which time the situation will be re-assessed.”

The Village of Salmo urges everyone to stay safe – self isolate, wash your hands frequently, wear a mask if you have to go out and practice physical distancing.

“If you have any symptoms get tested,” the Village of Salmo release said.

Schools will remain open in Salmo.

However, other Village facilities will be closed, including:

  • Thrift Store
  • SVYCC programs (building remains open)

Monday, Interior Health announced 53 additional COVID-19 cases were reported in the region over the weekend, bringing the total in IH since the start of the pandemic to 898

Interior Health said there are 128 cases are active and on isolation with one person in hospital.

Interior Health also updated the COVID-19 outbreak at Royal Inland Hospital Patient Care Tower construction site in Kamloops.

Seven cases are directly linked to the outbreak, with no new cases reported since Friday.

Monday, Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer, reported two 24-hour periods. From Nov. 7 to 8, we had 536 new cases. In the last 24 hours, we had a further 462 new cases.

This represents 998 new cases of COVID-19, for a total of 18,714 cases in British Columbia.

Staff member tests positive for COVID-19 at Salmo Community Services 

The Salmo Community Services said in a release Friday on its Facebook site that a staff member has tested positive for COVID-19.

The release said the current “COVID-19 situation in the Village of Salmo is evolving.”

“(Friday) we were notified that one of our staff has been confirmed with having COVID-19 virus,” said Maureen Beck.

“The employee’s last day of work was October 29, 2020.”

“Currently, the employee is resting at home in self isolation and has mild/moderate symptoms,” Beck added.

The release said the Salmo Community Resource Society is taking all the necessary precautions, like following the advice of the BC Ministry of health by limiting in-person contact.

“Clinical staff offer face-to-face counselling with masks, social distancing or behind plexi-glass barriers,” Beck explained.

 “Our office has remained closed to the public.”

Beck said Salmo Community Services are working closely with BC Ministry of Health, Interior Health and Worksafe BC to ensure all proper protocols for any re-opening are followed to protect employees, clients and the community.

“We do know that COVID-19 is now in our community . . .,” Beck said. “We encourage everyone to take precautions — wash your hands, wear a mask and practice self-distancing when you to have to leave your home.”

Friday, Interior Health, on a day BC Public Health announced a new record 589 new cases for a total of 17,149 cases in the province, declared a COVID-19 outbreak at the Patient Care Tower (PCT) construction site at Royal Inland Hospital (RIH).

Interior Health said there is no evidence of any hospital staff or patient exposures related to this outbreak at this time.

“This outbreak is limited to the PCT construction site – hospital operations are not impacted,” Interior Health said.

“It is important that anyone requiring medical care feels confident in coming to RIH.”

Currently, Interior Health has confirmed seven cases of COVID-19 linked to this outbreak and is investigating any connection between cases in other jurisdictions.

Friday, Interior Health said there were 24 additional COVID-19 cases were reported in the region overnight, bringing the total in IH since the start of the pandemic to 845

There are currently 115 cases are active and on isolation and one person is in hospital.
