UPDATED: Environment Canada ends Special Weather Statement

Environment Canada has lifted the Special Weather Statement for the West Kootenay that was issued Saturday.

The weather pattern that dumped an abundance of rain Saturday, will pass Sunday morning with showers ending before a mix of sun and cloud takes over.

Wind becoming northwest 20 km/h this morning. High 15. UV index 4 or moderate.

Environment Canada issues Special Weather Statement

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement for the West Kootenay as system packing heavy rain flows over the Southern Interior.

The statement includes Nelson, Trail, Castlegar, Nakusp and Creston.

“A weather system over the southern B.C. Interior is giving rain to most southern regions today,” the Weather Statement said.

“The rain is expected to continue until Sunday when the system slides southward.

Environment Canada calls for rainfall totals look to vary widely dependent on location due to the complex terrain.

“Parts of West Kootenay, Kootenay Lake, Elk Valley, Arrow Lakes – Slocan Lake, Shuswap, West Columbia, and southern Fraser Canyon will likely receive rainfall amounts of 30 to 40 mm through Sunday.”

The forecast calls for snow level at 1600 metres rising to 2500 metres this afternoon with amount 10 to 15 mm.

Between 15 to 25 mm of rain is expected today with rain ending Sunday morning.
