UPDATED: Environment Canada continues Heat Warning for Boundary, West Kootenay

Environment Canada said a Heat Warning remains as a ridge of high pressure slowly moving eastward over the southern Interior will result in continued how weather through Friday.
Environment Canada said daytime maximum temperatures will climb a couple more degrees today and reach 37 degrees at many localities with a few spots crossing the 40 degree mark. Overnight minimum temperatures will only recover to the upper teens to 20 degree mark.
“It will remain hot on Friday as daytime highs remain in the mid to upper thirties,” Environment Canada said. “Significant cooling will occur on Saturday as a cold front moves through the area overnight Friday.”
The public should watch for the effects of heat illness: swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.
Drink plenty of water even before you feel thirsty and stay in a cool place. Check on older family, friends and neighbours. Make sure they are cool and drinking water
Seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, swimming pool, shower or bath, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.
Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

“Daytime maximum temperatures will reach or exceed 35 degrees today. It will get even hotter on Thursday and maximum temperatures will peak close to 40 degrees. Overnight minimum temperatures will only recover to the upper teens to 20 degrees for the next couple of nights.”
Environment Canada said it will remain hot on Friday as daytime highs remain in the low to mid-thirties. Significant cooling will occur on Saturday as a cold front moves through the area.
The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Environment Canada said the hot weather is expected to return to the province this week, with the mercury is set to soar by mid-week over the southern interior as a strengthening ridge of high pressure draws hot air up from the western U.S.
“High temperatures today will reach the low 30s and creep up another degree or two on Tuesday,” Environment Canada said.
“By Wednesday and Thursday daytime maximums will peak in the mid to high thirties with the potential for some communities to reach the 40 degree mark ; overnight lows will only drop to the upper teens to about 20 degrees.”
“Heat Warnings may be issued later this week for some interior communities,” Environment Canada added. “Cooling is expected to begin Friday.”
While the heat may be welcome for most, Environment and Climate Change Canada and Medical Health Officers are reminding people to take precautions to protect themselves from the heat, including:
- stay hydrated by drinking cold beverages, preferably water.
- spend time in an air-conditioned facility for at least several hours every day.
- avoid sunburn, stay in the shade and use sunscreen with SPF 30 or more.
- never leave children or pets alone in a parked car.
