UPDATE: RCMP confirm person of interest regarding suspicious death near Oliver released

RCMP continue to investigate a suspicious death Saturday (June 7) near Oliver.

Police confirm a person of interest who was taken into custody following the discovery of a body has been released.

The identity of the deceased is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

RCMP investigating suspicious death after woman’s body found near Oliver

RCMP are investigating a suspicious death after a woman’s body was discovered Saturday (June 7) near a popular fishing and camping site near Oliver in B.C.’s Okanagan.

Oliver RCMP responded to a report of a disturbance near the shore of Saw Mill Lake at 3 a.m. PT.

“Police discovered the body of a woman at the scene and deemed her death to be suspicious, ” RCMP Const. Kris Clark said.

“A person of interest was taken into custody and investigators do not believe there to be any danger to the public.”

Clark added the investigation is in the preliminary stages and no charges have yet been laid.
 
The Southeast District Major Crime Unit with assistance from South Okanagan Detachment continue to investigate.
