UPDATE: RCMP ask for public assistance in finding a silver pickup truck possibly used in Salmo robbery

Police are distributing photos of the suspect who robbed a Salmo bank on Feb. 25, according to RCMP Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff.

“The photographs clearly depict that the coat is purple in colour and that the suspect is wearing light tan coloured hiking style footwear,” she said. “Investigation has also confirmed a silver/gray pick-up truck departing the area shortly after the robbery towards Nelson on Hwy 6. The truck is possibly a Toyota Tacoma.

“Police are requesting if any one that may have been in the area at the time and drives or owns a similar truck to contact the police at the numbers below.

“Police continue to seek the assistance from the public on information that will assist in this investigation and are urged to contact CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477) or Salmo Detachment at 250-357-2212.”

Local police are looking for the perpetrator of an armed bank robbery, according to Castlegar RCMP Cpl. Debbie Postnikoff.

She said the call came in at roughly 4:50 p.m. yesterday, when an alarm sounded at the Salmo Kootenay Savings Credit Union on Highway 6.

“Salmo, Nelson and Trail RCMP members responded, however, the suspect had fled on foot prior to police arrival and has not yet been arrested. The male entered the bank just prior to closing and brandished a firearm. He was able to get away with an undisclosed amount of money. No one was injured during the incident.

“The male suspect is described as Caucasian, 5′ 6”, 150 lbs, and was dressed in black pants, a new looking purple ski jacket, black mask, with a hood also pulled down over his head/face.

“RCMP Forensic Identification Services attended the scene. Salmo Detachment and Kootenay Boundary GIS are continuing with their investigation into this serious incident. Police are seeking the assistance from the public on any information relating to this offence and are urged to contact CRIMESTOPPERS at 1-800-222- TIPS (8477) or Salmo Detachment at 250-357-2212.”
