Trafalgar sweeps West Kootenay Volleyball Titles

Trafalgar Thunder used home court advantage to capture the West Kootenay Grade 8 Volleyball Championships Monday at the Uphill School Gymnasium.

Trafalgar captured both the girl’s and boy’s titles with wins over their school rivals.

Thunder A squad edged Trafalgar B 11-15, 15-4, 15-13.

Trafalgar A edged Wildflower of Nelson and Crawford Bay to advance to the semifinals. Thunder B got past J.V. Humphries of Kaslo and Mount Sentinel to qualify for playoff round.

Thunder A squad consists of Megan Bonikowski, Neve Hamilton, Shelbi Van Hellemond, Atlyn Proctor, Ava Anast, Neveah Marcum-McCormick and Niya Latkin.

Meanwhile, Thunder Boys A defeated St. Joseph and Crawford Bay while Trafalgar B outlasted Salmo and Mount Sentinel.

Trafalgar A then dumped Thunder B 2-0 in the best-of-three match to capture the West Kootenay crown. Thunder A team consists of Alex Gotzy, Ryder Colins, Stephen Vissers, Ollie Gyr, Connor and Tanner Jackson.

Head coach of both Trafalgar teams is Staci Proctor.
