Tough start to season for LVR Bombers; back on court at Mount Sentinel tourney

It’s been a work in progress through two high schoool basketball tournaments for the L.V. Rogers Bombers.

The varsity squad is 2-4 on the season after being swept at the South Okanagan Hornets High School Boy’s Tourney this past weekend in Oliver.

The Bombers lost 57-46 to West Kelowna’s Mount Bourcherie in consolation round action Saturday.

The difference was a one-point offensive output by the Bombers in the second quarter of the game at turned a 20-15 lead into a 27-21 deficit.

Isaiah Kingdom lead the Bombers with 15 points while Matt Zukowski added 12.

LVR opened the tourney with a heartbreaking 75-73 loss in overtime to G.W. Graham of Chilliwack.

The Bombers had the ball with six seconds remaining in the game. But in an attempt to go for the win with a three-point attempt, missed the opportunity.

Zukowski was a man on a mission for LVR, finishing the game with 26 points.

Kingdom had 10 while Jack Sturrup had 24 points.

Cody Wallis had 28 points for G.W. Graham.

The Bombers lost in the consolation round to Rutland 68-63.

The week before in Penticton, LVR won the consolation side of the Princess Margaret tournament by defeating Pen-Hi Lakersm 67-58.

Zukowski with 16 and Cail Spencer with 11 led the Bombers.

LVR defeated Vernon Secondary in the consolation round 53-42.

Player-of-the-game Jesse Zak led the Bombers with 26 points.

The Bombers return to the hardwood Friday at the Mount Sentinel tournament. LVR meets Stanley Humphries at 1:45 p.m. while the Bomber Single-A team plays Sparwood at 5 p.m.

The Final is set for Saturday at Mount Sentinel.

Bomber girls drop SHSS in West Kootenay hoop opener

Devyn Parker scored 20 and Kyley Mirva added 11 to spark the LVR Bombers to a 47-17 win over Stanley Humphries Rockers in West Kootenay High School Girl’s Basketball action Wednesday at the Hangar.

Jayden Roch and Marley Watt each added eight points for the Bombers.

In the junior girls game, SHSS defeated LVR 40-22.

Claire Young and Shannon Oosthyzen were the high scorers with eight and 10 points, respectively.

The Bombers next action is Thursday, December 20 at J. Lloyd Crowe.
