Now that the ice is back ready for play at the Nelson and District Community Complex, the Nelson Figure Skating Club is ready to kick off the upcoming season with a three-week summer camp, beginning August 15th.

The Nelson Club is pleased to announce that the camp will feature some very talented guest instructors — including National Level skater and experienced coach, Heather Heide and Kaetlyn Osmond, three time national medalist, World and Olympic Champion.

“All of the guest coaches will be assisting in leading group lessons and will be available for private lessons for all registered skaters,” the Nelson Figure Skating Club said in a media release.

“On Wednesday August 31 in the evening, we plan to do a community meet and greet with Kaetlyn Osmond to take pictures, sign autographs and answer any questions.”

Osmond is a retired competitive Canadian figure skater who competed in ladies’ singles.

The 26-year-old skater is a three-time Canadian national champion, who competed internationally at the senior level from 2012 to 2018, winning three Olympic medals, two World Championship medals, and one Grand Prix Final medal.

The club said there are approximately 40 skaters from all over the Kootenays to skate throughout the summer camp.

There is also a learn to skate program for beginner skaters of all ages — including children, adults, youth who are looking to improve basic skating skills for figure skating, hockey, ringette or speed skating, or wish to skate for recreation, fitness or fun.
