The judge hearing the case of a man charged in the shooting of an RCMP officer last week near Argenta has decided not to place a publication ban on information surrounding the case.

Publication bans prohibit the publication or disclosure of certain information in otherwise open court proceedings.

The decision came following the latest court appearance Thursday in Castlegar by the suspect, who is facing four charges, including attempted murder, following a police standoff that began last week when officers attended the Argenta residence to execute an arrest warrant.

Other charges include unlawfull discharge of a firearm being in a dwelling-house without lawful excuse and careless use or storage of a firearm.

The situation quickly escalated out of control when police said the man fled to a cabin where shots were fired, injuring one officer.

That police officer was transported to hospital in Trail with what police describe as serious, but non-life-threatening, injuries.

An ensuing standoff and negotiation continued until Friday afternoon when the suspect was arrested without incident.

Thursday was the second court appearance for the 28-year-old suspect, who appeared in Tuesday in Nelson.

The next court appearance for the man is set for November 14th, in Castlegar Provincial Court.

Argenta is located at the north end of Kootenay Lake, approximately 110 kilometers north of Nelson on Highway 3A and 31.
