Strong field expected for Doug Bothamley Memorial Open Cash Spiel

Teams from throught the southern interior of the province have set Nelson for the next stop on the curling calendar as the Heritage City club plays host to the Doug Bothamley Memorial Open Cash Spiel November 24-26.

The cashspiel is names in honour of longtime curler Doug Bothamley.

The avid curler spent countless hours in the rinks around the Kootenays coaching competitive junior and women’s teams, competing and volunteering with Curl BC.

Currently there are 20 teams from the Okanagan and Kootenays entered.

Teams entered will be competing for more than $10,000 in prizes.

“We could not hold the successful event without our sponsors however  once again the local merchants and businesses throughout the kootenays along with a couple major sponsors have stepped up and done their part in making it what it is today we thank them for their support,” said tournament organizers.

This event features all levels of play, from league curlers to provincial level teams, competing in similar skill sets for cash prizes.

Teams are guaranteed five games and the cost is $420 per team, which includes a steak dinner. Limited spaces are available for teams or individuals wishing to curl.

Spectators are encouraged to drop by the Nelson Curling Centre to watch some home town favourites, including the Fred Thompson rink, last year’s winning team.
