Due to high demands, the Regional District of Central Kootenay, effective immediately, is implementing mandatory Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures for the Balfour Water System.

“High water demand has resulted in low reservoir levels, which requires Balfour Water Users to conserve water,” the RDCK release said.

Friday, the RDCK added South Slocan Water System into the mix for Stage 2 Water Conservation.

STAGE 2 WATER CONSERVATION MEASURES for both Balfour and South Slocan Water System include:

  • Watering of lawns, gardens, trees and shrubs is ONLY permitted between 6-10 a.m. and 8-10 p.m.
  • Watering of gardens, trees and shrubs by watering can or hand-held hose is still permitted anytime.

The RDCK appreciates Balfour water users’ cooperation in adhering to the above water conservation measures. Stage 2 Water Conservation Measures will remain in effect until further notice and stricter water conservation measures may be required if demand increases significantly, or if hot and dry weather prevails.

Water conservation measures for RDCK water systems are shown in the following table. More details are available on the RDCK website at: www.rdck.ca/water.
