The streets in Nelson saw a lot of crazy-looking people running, jumping and generally looking for clues during the fourth annual Selkirk College Ski Resort Operations and Management program SROAMazing race.

Twenty teams of participants navigated through the streets and shops of the Nelson downtown using checkpoints and a variety of clues while completing fun and interactive games and activities.

“This event affords us with a real opportunity to make a positive impact in the area,” said SROAM Student Eddy Learmont.

“We are drawing from all that we have learned so far to create the best event possible, and cannot wait to share the results with the public on race day.”

First place went to Defending Champs who covered the course in one hour, 56 minutes.

Right behind, in second, was Tight n Bright followed by Plain old rod Superstars.

Selkirk instructor Robyn Mitz said the event was a tremendous success.

“We had 20 teams in total (and) raised over $1800 for Avalanche Awareness Beyond the Boundaries Society.”

“This is an extremely important cause for the community considering Nelson and the surrounding area are well known for its world class out-of-bounds terrain,” a SROAMazing race spokesperson said.

“The SROAM program feels it is crucial for the local population to provide these skills and courses to youth.”
