Special Weather Statement for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass

Environment Canada said a weather system over southern BC will bring showers to the region Friday with snow levels lowered to 1200 to 1400 metres during the morning. Those snow levels are forecasted to rise to near 1700 metres Friday afternoon.
“Snowfall amounts of 5 to 10 cm are expected this morning over highway 3 – Paulson summit to Kootenay Pass and over the Okanagan Connector. Lesser amounts of 2 to 4 cm are possible over Allison Pass and Coquihalla Highway – Hope to Merritt,” Environment Canada said.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Environment Canada issued a Special Weather Statement Thursday for Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.
Environment Canada said a weather system over southern BC will bring showers to the region today and Friday with the snow level lowering to 1300 to 1500 metres Thursday night before rising to 1700 to 1900 metres Friday afternoon.
“Over highway 3 – Paulson summit to Kootenay Pass, showers will change to snow this evening with local amounts up to 15 cm near Kootenay Pass by Friday morning,” Environment Canada said.
“Snow will taper off to a few flurries or rain showers Friday afternoon.”
Environment Canada said over the Okanagan connector, up to 5 cm snow accumulations are possible near the summit Thursday night, with snow tapering off or changing to rain showers Friday morning.
For the Allison Pass, Environment Canada said showers may change to flurries near the summit this evening with possibly up to 2 cm snow accumulation tonight.
