Southeast Fire Centre Wildfire Update

The BC Wildfire Service continues to assess and respond to the increased fire behaviour on several fires in the Southeast Fire Centre (SEFC).
In a media release Wednesday, the BC Wildfire Service said as the forecast remains warm and dry, existing fires in the Kootenay Lake Zone have become more visible to surrounding communities.
Here is a closer look at some of the fires still of concern in the Southeast Fire Centre.
Fry Creek Wildfire
This fire is located approximately 15 kilometres north of Kaslo on the east side of Kootenay Lake. The fire is burning in steep terrain in the Purcell Wilderness Conservancy. As a result of warm and dry weather patterns the fire remains highly visible, particularly at night. While increased smoke is expected to be visible from surrounding communities, the Fry Creek wildfire remains within containment lines and is being monitored daily.
Briggs Creek Wildfire
The Briggs Creek Wildfire is a lightning-caused wildfire located 11.5 kilometres south of Kaslo. The fire is currently estimated at 2,160 hectares. The BC Wildfire Service is continuing to monitor this incident. Increased smoke at high elevation in the Kemp Creek drainage may be observed due to warm and dry conditions, but there is currently no threat to the established containment lines. This fire will continue to be monitored by ground and air.
Glacier Creek Wildfire
This lightning-caused wildfire is located approximately 43 kilometres northeast of Kaslo, and 10 kilometres northeast of Meadow Creek, on the east side of Duncan Lake. The fire is estimated at 139 hectares and is being held. Currently, this fire is not threatening any identified values and is burning within our chosen trigger points. The activity continues to be on the north flank on steep difficult ground. We will be flying and monitoring the fire for the indefinite future. The area restriction around this fire was rescinded today at 12:00 noon PDT, September 28, 2022.
The Southeast Fire Centre extends from the U.S. border in the south to Mica Dam in the north, and from the Okanagan Highlands and Monashee Mountains in the west, to the B.C.-Alberta border in the east.
