South Okanagan RCMP on the lookout for armed robbery suspect

RCMP in the South Okanagan are on the lookout for a suspect believed to be involved in an armed robbery Thursday (July 16) at 10:17 a.m. in Oliver.

RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Dave Tyreman said police attended to a complaint of an armed robbery in the 6400 block of Park Drive.

“Officers attended and spoke to the business owner who advised that just shortly after 10 a.m. an unknown man entered the store and produced a weapon,” Tyreman said.

Tyreman said information provided had the male departing in an older model GMC pick-up described as:

Older model, smaller size (possibly quarter ton), Two-tone, White or Light Grey and Dark Grey with a red stripe along the bottom it may have had a Dark Grey, or Black canopy on the box.

The suspect is described as;

White male, late 50’s- early 60’s, 5’10”, 150lbs, facial hair, cleft lip or scar above lip

  • Grey, longer, ‘surfer-style’ hairstyle.
  • Wearing Jeans with Black shirt and black leather coat, with a dark coloured ball cap.
  • looked thin and sickly.

Tyreman said from the description provided, police believe it to be similar to that of a man who currently has outstanding warrants out of Penticton.

Tyreman said anyone seeing this individual or suspect vehicle should call  9-1-1 immediately or Oliver RCMP at 250-498-3422 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (tips).

“Do not approach either one as the suspect is considered by police to be extremely volatile,” Tyreman said.
