Well, Old Man Winter finally arrived.

Environment Canada has issued a snowfall Wednesday for some parts of the Boundary and most of the West Kootenay region, including Highway 3, Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass — with total accumulation of about 20 cm.

“Heavy snow continues today,” the Environment Canada website said. “A further 10 to 15 cm of snow will fall before ending this evening.

Environment Canada said the public should be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” Environment Canada said. “Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.”

Shift Into Winter reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.

Road conditions are available at DriveBC.

The Environment Canada website said unsettled, wet weather is expected to continue through most of the week.
