Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning for Highway 3, from Grand Forks to Creston, which includes the Kootenay Paas and Paulson Summit.

Environment Canada said anyone traveling Highway 3 can expect a long period of snowfall with total amounts of 20 to 25 cm.

“A frontal system will bring heavy snow to Kootenay Pass and Paulson Summit (Thursday) tonight,” Environment Canada website said.

“Warm air moving into the interior will cause snow levels to rise tonight, and snow will change to rain at lower elevations.

“However, near Kootenay Pass and Paulson Summit, snow is expected to continue with snowfall amounts of 20 to 25 cm expected by Friday morning.”

Environment Canada said the driving public should be prepared to adjust driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
