Environment Canada has issued a Snowfall Warning Friday for Highway 3 — Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass.

Environment Canada said a heavy snowfall is expected beginning Friday night and into Saturday afternoon with accumulation of 15-20 cm.

Snow heavy at times is expected.

“A low pressure system will bring snow to Highway 3 - Paulson Summit to Kootenay Pass from tonight to Saturday afternoon,” Environment Canada said.

“Snow will become light and then taper off Saturday night.”

Environment Canada said drivers should be prepared to adjust due to changing road conditions and rapidly accumulating snow that will make travel difficult.

“Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow,” Environment Canada said.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

The ShiftIntoWinter site reminds drivers to know before you go. Adjust to winter driving behaviour and use winter tires and chains.
