Smoky sky advisory issued for region as fires blaze on

Forest fire smoke in the area has caused the Ministry of Environment to issue a smoky skies advisory for Thompson, Shuswap, Okanagan, Similkameen, Nicola, Boundary and Fraser Canyon regions.
According to the Ministry, smoke concentrations can vary depending on the winds, fire behaviour and temperature fluctuations.
They recommend avoiding strenuous outdoor activities and that vulnerable people like infants, the elderly and those with medical conditions stay inside.
According to the Southeast Fire Centre there are currently 19 forest fires in the region. A fire in Slocan Park is considered one of the largest, currently active fires in the area. It is estimated to be covering 120 hectares (295 acres). The biggest fire in the region is at White Tail Brook and is estimated to cover 1,700 hectares (4200) acres.
The next closest fire centre is the Kamloops region and they are currently battling 13 forest fires.
