BC Wildfire helicopters and North Shore Fire Department crews attended the scene of a fire north of Nelson on the mountainside above Highway 3A approximately two to three kilometers from the Big Orange Bridge.
BC Wildfire Service said reports the fire started after a tree hit the power line.
There was a severe gust of wind over the Nelson area at approximately 3 p.m. A short time later smoke could be seen from Nelson.
BC Wildfire Service said an Intitial Attack Response team of four firefighters attended the fire, assisted by helicopters carrying buckets of water could be seen over the fire.
Balfour Fire Department also attended as mutual aid.
BC Wildfire Service said the fire was quickly brought under control.
