A small group of supporters tied up traffic in the Nelson downtown Friday afternoon as part of #ShutDownCanada demonstration.

#ShutDownCanada was scheduled to create a bit of havoc Friday (February 13)  as people took part in a variety of direct actions and demonstrations.

The movement has more than 3700 people joining the Facebook page that was created for the event.

Organizers were asking for communities across Canada to blockade local railways, ports or highways.

In Nelson a handful of protesters did their best to create havoc on Baker Street, slowing traffic to a standstill.

The group started at the Kootenay Co-op store at 200 Baker Street, then paraded along the main street before stopping at Hall Street.

Downtown shoppers and officers from the Nelson Police Department carefully watched the entire demonstration.

More to come later . . ..
