Slippery roads blamed for head-on accident near Shoreacres

Slippery roads are being blamed for a head-on collision between the Shoreacres bridge and Esso Gas Station on Highway 3A Wednesday afternoon.
A reader of The Nelson Daily called to report that the pickup truck with three occupants was heading east on Highway 3A toward Nelson, just past the the passing lane but before the Esso Gas Station, when a Subaru Impreza and truck collided.
“Three occupants in a pickup truck were taken to hospital and single occupant in hatch back car also being looked at,” the reader said.
BC Ambulance and RCMP responded to the accident as well as Tarry’s Fire Department firefighters, who were instrumental in containing the scene.
“A big shout out to the Tarry’s Volunteer Fire Department,” the reader said. “They had a guy on site in gear amazingly quick.”
Afternoon traffic was reduced to single lane while the accident scene was cleaned up.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the West Kootenay as Arctic air over the Interior will combine with moisture advancing from the Pacific to give steadier snow beginning Wednesday with expected amounts of 2 to 4 cm.
Thursday a stronger impulse will result in more snow and amounts of 5 to 10 cm are forecast for much of the Similkameen, Okanagan, Arrow-Slocan and West Kootenay regions with more snow is likely for Friday.
