Highway 3A approximately one kilometer west of Nelson was reduced to single-lane traffic Wednesday morning while first responders dealt with a truck accident.

Initial reports indicate the driver of a white pickup, heading westbound on Granite Road, veered off the secondary road through the brush before sliding over a rock face and ending up in the ditch on Highway 3A.

Nelson Police, Nelson Fire and Rescue, BC Ambulance and KERPA (Kootenay Emergency Response Physicians Association) all responded to the accident scene.

The driver appeared to walk away from the accident.

Highway 3A was slowed while Nelson Police interviewed the sole occupant and BC Ambulance accessed driver.

The accident remains under investigation.

The truck ended up in the ditch on Highway 3A after flying off the rock face from above.

Nelson Fire and Rescue firefighters directed traffic near the Nelson/Kootenay Lake viewpoint outside Nelson following a single-vehicle accident Wednesday morning.
