After nearly five years without one, Silverton and the Slocan Valley could have their own indoor arena once again.

The Silverton rink is slated to re-open this fall, with nearly $100,000 in renovations nearly complete — except lighting — after it closed in 2006.

With a Recreation Infrastructure grant in hand from the Canada Action Plan, the Village of Silverton and the arena society completed the roof and floor of the facility, putting in new roof trusses.

The trusses allowed for the removal of the support beams that ran down the middle of the rink, separating the two sheets of ice — making the rink one open area.

The floor was poured with cement, installing new piping and Styrofoam insulation, making it more efficient for ice making.

In an effort to get the lights in and the doors open for curling and skating this season, the Slocan Lake Arena Society is soliciting donations and selling raffle tickets for three Les Weisbrich paintings to raise the needed funds.
