September 1.7 degrees warmer than normal

The trend of warm weather continued over the region for the month of September said Ron LakemanWeather Forecasterfor the Southeast Fire Centre in Castlegar in the monthly synopsis.
“As was the case during the past two months a strong upper ridge of high pressure maintained unseasonably warm and generally dry conditions during the initial 12 days of September,” Lakeman said.
“A new record daily maximum temperature of 32.1 degrees was set on the 8th. The warmest temperature of the month (36.2 degrees) occurred during the afternoon of the third.”
Lakeman said the following two weeks were cooler and unsettled as a few weakening disturbances pushed across southern BC.
“The only rainfall of any significance fell during the night of the 19th and the night of the 20th,” he said.
Lakeman said a high pressure allowed for a few dry and unseasonably warm days again toward the end of the month.
The mean monthly temperature was 1.7 degrees warmer than normal. The total monthly rainfall was only 10.6 millimetres or 25 percent of the normal amount.
Lakeman said the July through September total rainfall was 20.4 millimetres which is only 17 percent of the normal three-month total.
Environment Canada forecasts dryer weather for the start of October with daytime temperatures hovering in the mid-to-high teens.
There is a chance of showers later in the week.
